Fire

Photo from scrapbookpages.com

The first thing I think about when I think of "fire" is the crematorium. This picture represents fire in that way. This is a picture of the one of the crematoriums. When the woman on the train was screaming about the fire, it was a prophetic sign of these chimneys. This is a very disturbing picture, but it shows how small they were, and how they just kept putting more bodies in there.

Fire is a symbol of the Nazi's cruel power. Elie also sees them burning babies in the ditch. In Jewish faith, fire is a symbol of God's wrath, which Elie loses faith in. The wicked yield the power of fire, using it to burn innocent people.
