Silence

Elie finds the idea of God's silence to be the most troubling. Him and his friends are left to question why such an all knowing God will not help them, especially since they are so devoted to him. There is also the silence of the victims, and the lack of revolting. It was the silence that allowed the Holocaust to continue.

The first thing I see when I look at this picture is Juliek playing his violin sadly, while releasing his soul,  at the end of the novel. Everyone was silent as he played his final piece. The empty chairs remind me of the people. They are nothing but hollow shells, who have so much, yet nothing to say. To me it is also a bunch of loves and passions...abandoned. Which to me just screams, silence.
